Christian Gibbs played in the 90s with Modern English & Morning Glories. 29 Over Me is one to rescue from the bargain bins. It's a mix of different rock approaches, almost all of which works well. Cut My Spirit Dry opens with great wash of electric guitar as Gibbs sings obscure lyrics, The bored died lazy while the starving succeed. Drag the Ashes is a midtempo rocker with Beatlesque guitars. House in a Bottle sports a melody that would probably show up in Rufus Wainwright's CD changer. Ellen Terry is an electric ballad for unwed mothers. Sincerity's Ground has trumpets to broaden its epic sound with churning blues-laced guitars. Gibb's guitar sounds like he's been listening to George Harrison a lot on Down on Rivington. Slowly Creeping Smile is a haunting bluesy track that is excellent, Once I'm gone there'll be one less soldier, one less fighter in your unfamiliar ring. This set is amazing because there is so much going on both musically and lyrically. On one track piano leads, on another guitars both acoustic but mostly electric. 29 Over Me is a hidden gem. Enjoy!
