Hailing from a city best know for its radical hardcorescene, Rosa Parks takes the energy and on-stage antics of a punk band and blend it with indie sensibility and full blown power pop. Concerned with and aware of political issues as well as the trials of everyday life, the band offers an opinionated view on today’s society, norms and social structure. Tough heavily inspired by some of Norways finest indie rock acts, like Lukestar and Rumble in Rhodos (bands which RP has shared the stage with at numerous occasions), Rosa Parks still represents a youthful and intense contribution to the vibrant Norwegian alternative rock scene. Drawing inspiration from any artistic expression, the band is not limited by the concept for genre. Nevertheless, Rosa Parks has a distinct sound, and can easily be recognized by giving it their all live. Keeping everything in a DIY-spirit, the band performs everywhere from shabby rehearsal rooms without PA-systems, to festivals with some of the nation’s most popular bands. Staying true to punk rock ethics, the members of the band are involved in everything from other musical projects, such as Plumbo and Jakob Hkon Band, to booking and arranging local concerts. Rosa Parks is not trying to bring the hey-days of some musical era back to life, or claiming to be 100% unique and innovational. What matters are the present, the moments where a group of kids are given an outlet for their feelings and frustrations, the chance to participate, sing and dance together, and share a moment of true freedom.
