Giuseppe Ielasi on 12k. Now that's for a surprise. Maybe it was always coming, but after the recent bunch of new talent, to see an arrived musician adding to the label makes a noticeable change. Ielasi's tracks still clock in at somewhere between 6-8 minutes, though unlike his previous releases, there are five instead of four. Playing his favorite instruments again: the guitar of course, piano, dobro, Hammond organ, synthesizers and shortwave, and he's out to teach us a lesson. The lesson being that you don't need laptops only to make warm, textured and glitchy music. A guitar can be anything but a guitar - instead, a device for playing long-form, luminescent drones. Other instruments help crafting humming, flowing streams of sound, densely layered together, with phase-shifting patterns. Slow, but always on the move. Where there is room, Ielasi throws in some delay, yet there's never a muddy sound, and everything stays (as the picture on the cover) crystal clear. A worthy follow-up to Bellows.
