by James Christopher MongerNew Hampshire's Scissorfight sound like the Georgia Satellites, Slayer, and the Dead Kennedys being squeezed through a garlic press. Brutal and relentless, their penchant for sleazy song titles (Balls Deep) and thick blues riffs owes as much to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath as it does Southern-fried rock, but there's a swift undercurrent of literate classic punk in the vein of the Descendants that keeps the quartet a cut above novelty. That said, Jaggernaut is first and foremost a boogie rock sleazefest meant to be played at the loudest volume possible, and whiplash rockers like Victory Over Horseshit, 86 Sucker, and Appalachian Chain don't disappoint -- even the cheap Danzig knockoff Metal Mother grooves. At the very least, fans of Prong, the Exploited, and the Kings of Leon finally have a reason to hang out in the same room.
