Despite extensive international touring and a burgeoning profile, Melbourne band A Death In The Family had to look no further than their own backyard to find inspiration for their new album, Small Town Stories. The result is a punk rock record that is deeply rooted in the Australian experience, sparkling with character and vivid insight.Recorded by Samuel Johnson at Three Phase Studios in Melbourne (with additional instruments recorded at The Arthouse Studio), Small Town Stories is a profoundly inspiring and moving record. Mixed by J. Robbins (Against Me!, Texas is the Reason, Jawbreaker) in Baltimore and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side in New York, the album is the band’s most sonically striking to date.Lyrically, Small Town Stories focuses on the shared experiences of the band members growing up in smaller communities in Australia and the weird and often tragic stories that happen in a lot of these places; the myths and legends that arise in these small towns. By turns intriguing and heartbreaking, the record touches on everyday experiences, but imbues them with a universal significance so that anyone, no matter where they live, can relate to it.Having recently re-issued A Death In The Family’s 2006 debut album This Microscopic War on vinyl, Resist Records is proud to present Small Town Stories, one of the most stirring and honest Australian punk rock records you’ll hear this year.To support Small Town Stories, A Death In The Family will hit the road this March, joining them will be Newcastle band Like Alaska.
