dbClifford (aka: Daniel Clifford) is a multi-talented musician and songwriter of French and British decent. Although originally from south west France, Clifford is known to have lived in Los Angeles, London, and various Canadian cities. At an early age dbClifford’s talent was quickly recognized. He was locally known for his songwriting, vocal skills and his multi-instrumental talent on the drums, piano, guitar and bass. By the age of 18, Clifford attended the prestigious C.I.A.M. School of Music in Bordeaux, France and was discovered upon graduation by some of the music industry’s biggest names. In 2000, Clifford and his long-time collaborator, William Cartwright, were signed to NuAmerica/Interscope as a pop/soul duo under the name of Supanova. Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, Clifford and Cartwright mutually decided that their musical aspirations were not following the same path and they severed ties as musical partners in order to pursue their own solo projects. Concurrently, Clifford’s mother died and he was forced to return to France. dbClifford claims his mother’s passing gave him an enhanced sense of purpose and inspiration. As an homage to her, he added his mother’s last name to his initials and created his stage name of dbClifford. In 2004 Clifford recorded, Recyclable, his first full length studio album in his home studio in south west France.By the end of 2005 dbClifford had signed with Nettwerk Management and Nettwerk One (Publishing) and in early 2006 he signed on with Sony BMG Music (Canada) Inc. In 2007, Recyclable was released in Canada, Japan, Holland and France. Clifford played all the instruments on the album and wrote, recorded and produced all the songs. Critics raved about the sophisticated musicianship and dbClifford’s ability to create such an intricate debut album without any help from fellow songwriters or producers. Shortly after the album’s release, word spread about his live show and he was soon touring North America and Europe with well known acts like James Blunt, Counting Crows and festival headliners such as Amy Winehouse.Feet Above The Ground, his second album, shows his immense growth as a musician. He tuned into a darker side of his musical influences such as Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Traffic and Soundgarden yet tried to stay true to his soul/pop roots that were so prevalent on his first album such as Jamiroquai, Elton John and The Beatles. The album was recorded in his home studio in south west France and, again, dbClifford played all the instruments on the album and wrote, recorded and produced all the songs. Clifford also directed and produced the music video for the album’s title track.Unlike most recording artists, dbClifford prizes originality over popularity and is known to make career moves with his love of music in mind rather than money or fame. He is a performer, musician, producer, songwriter and creative mind but considers himself an artist above all else.
