The two acts featured on this compilation are not just inter-related but each played a big role in establishing Stax Records, the label founded by Jim Stewart and his sister Estelle Axton that symbolised Southern soul in the Sixties. The MGs' debut album 'Green Onions' (1962) and the Mar-Keys' first two albums, 'Last Night' (1961) and 'Do the Pop-Eye' (1962) are proof that Memphis music will live forever, and they have lost none of their potency through the passing of five decades.
