Koloni Records are proud to present gen;lon’s Canada/Berlin as our third release. gen;lon are Jonas Lönnå and Rickard Gensollen, a Swedish electronica duo that make fantastic ambient minimal techno. Not only do they produce this lush sounding techno but frequently DJ around the globe. With his mix of leftfield sounds, techno and deep house, Jonas has played clubs like: Batofar (Paris), Blaa (Oslo), Roxy Club (Istanbul), Blue Note (Tokyo) and has performed live with artists like Bugge Wesseltoft & Laurent Garnier at festivals like Sonar (Spain), Roskilde (Denmark), Montreaux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Nice Jazz Festival (France), and Beyond (Japan) amongst others. Since 2000 Rickard has been providing percussion for Jonas’ DJ sets and in 2006 they released the very successful album “Dong Dong Gaaf” on Jazzland Recordings, getting reviews that read as follows: “Timeless! Admirable!” – CueMix Magazine/Germany “Album of the Week” – Eldorado/Swedish National Radio “Dong Dong Gaaf” was also frequently played PBB radio in France by Laurent Garnier. On this new release Gen;lon unleash two techno tunes, ‘Canada’ and ‘Berlin’, and a remix of ‘Canada’ by wester & wedrén. The first track, ‘Canada’, is a beautiful and ambient track filled with jazzy drum and percussion rhythms, clicks and glitches. After a while an acid synth starts to emerge and together with flowing piano chords completes the track. Like in a perfect break the sound grows consistently throughout the tune and builds up a dreamy atmosphere. The second track, ‘Berlin’, starts off with a haunted snare drum that soon is joined by a vibrant bass lines and lingering synths. Growing steadily, the track evolves into a landscape of rhythms and sound, very deep and dark. The robotic echoes and voice samples give the tune a spooky and melodic ambience. The creation and bringing together of these jazzy elements is what characterizes the unique sound of gen;lon. gen;lon will release another single this winter and an album in spring 2009. They have also made a remix for Lee Holman (Fine Art Recordings/UK) that will be released this winter. Nils Westerlund and Oscar Wedrén from Swedish production collective Le Chiox made the wester and wedrén remix of ‘Canada’. The track has been completely transformed, the boys have been working hard on this one. A quite ambient track has been morphed into a spooky techno tune with Balkan-style synthesizers. Filled with different sound effects and noises you will definitely get that East European ghost house feeling. This remix will haunt many dance floors from now on.
