当年以东华大学学生组织而成，创作简单，就单纯想唱自己的歌，从生活中的感动、生命的互动以属于我们的音乐方式呈现，创作形式及风格不拘，摇滚、蓝调、原民风、轻音乐、和声、福音音乐以及族语创作等等。
以台九线公路谐音为命名，是一条台湾最美、最长的公路，就像人生一样，有起落，有高山低谷，有海洋平原。
