“CHRISTEL” born Shantelle C. Joseph-Welsh on the Island of Grenada (dubbed the “Spice Island”), to Christibelle Welsh and Matthew E. Joseph has been ready and focused to bring something new to the music entertainment industry.
At an early age Christel got her first hand experience from her father who worked with acts like Ajamu, Flying turkey, Blue boy, Shadow, Crazy, Becket, Darkie and Boogsie Sharp the panist from Trinidad. It was during those years she became fond of the performing arts and music. Her dad the reason for her to love and appreciate all that music has to offer.
After permanently migrating to the U.S in 2000, she traveled with her father from venue to venue, watching him perform and growing more in love with the art of music. She started using and admiring that as a motivation because she wanted to be in his position one day. CHRISTEL started performing with her high school choir which led her to partake in talent shows and also traveling to Disney’s Epcot to perform at one of their Christmas shows.
That’s when she realized that this is where she wanted to be one day. Entertaining people, making a place come alive with a band of instruments and her voice. The most memorable moment that truly changed her life came when she was nine years old, doing a solo performance of, “I believe I can fly” by R. Kelly, that left a hunger and humble appreciation for music and its power that she would never forget.
After many years of questioning herself, CHRISTEL re-connected with a long time friend who she soon found out was a part of where she wanted to be, making music. After playing around with the idea for so long, she decided to take the leap with no looking back and so in 2009 she began.
The rest of this story is history, here she is ready to be amongst the many talented artists, producers and take her place in this industry. She wants to share the same stage with the likes of Fay-Ann Lyons, Denise Belfon, Destra Garcia, Alison hinds, Onika Bostic R.I.P, Beyonce, Jill Scott and the many strong, influential females in the music entertainment industry. Her goal is to fuse the old with the new. Continue to be creative and innovative also being a part in taking our culture higher.
