These are the words that describe Colandra McDowell. Highlighted in JET Magazine as an Artist To Watch, She has been considered one of the most powerful psalmists of her generation. She is the eldest of four children and rises from a family that believes that music can heal the soul.
Her earliest memories of performing date back to her first solo performance at the age of four years old. Standing alongside her father, the person that she has dedicated her musical career too, Colandra knew then that her calling in life was to write and perform songs that were impressed upon her heart by the Holy Spirit.
Colandra’s outstanding vocal ability is one that will remain timeless. Born and raised in North Carolina, she grew up in a household where the spirit of God filled her home and the melody of song touched every heart that was present. For the past 10 years, McDowell has been a backup singer for her cousin, Kim Person (KLP Enterprises). She is also featured on background vocals for three of Kim Person’s albums.
Colandra’s voice has the influence of various sonic textures. God has pressed upon Colandra’s heart to walk by faith and allow Him to direct her path into the hearts and minds of those that support her music. Her debut album entitled, “Estimated Time of Arrival” “E.T.A.” was produced by Christopher Marcellus Batts of Vinelife Productions a Wilmington, N.C. based production company.
The mission of the album is to inspire people everywhere through her music while addressing various situations that young women may face such as: suicide, teen pregnancy and low self- esteem. “Don’t Throw it Away” provides listeners with insight on how to overcome challenging times by resting on God’s word and will for their lives. “E.T.A.” has a fresh and Contemporary Christian sound that has the ability to cross over and remain relevant for years to come.
“The goal of my music,” she notes, “is to lift the soul of the hurting, bring the message of Christ outside the four walls of the church while drawing the hearts of men and women back to Jesus.”
Colandra’s first single “Don’t Throw it away” is also featured on the Gospel Compilation CD “Antonio Neal presents Now Playing Volume 1”.
