Lights of Day is a Christian, husband, dad and worship leader – keeping it real in central Ohio. He loves to write songs for the church to sing. His songs are a collection of worship songs that were written with the church on his heart… and modern pop music on his mind. Let us explain. Not too long ago his church hosted a special evening teaching, aiming to expose today’s massive music industry and its blatant, unashamed promotion of sex, drugs and all things depraved. With dark, occultic symbolism (both implicitly and explicitly) running through the vast majority of today’s pop material, he was amazed at the stranglehold these songs had on the kids in our church community. At the conclusion of the teaching, he stared with tears in my eyes, as nearly 200 teenagers went forward to receive prayer for strength to withdrawl their allegience from these worldly artists and their songs. Satan was dealt a nasty blow that night; he had lost his foothold. The minds of our youth were being renewed by the power of the Holy Spirit and they wanted to start honoring Christ in every aspect of their lives. They wanted to fill their ears and minds with words of light and life – through the gospel of Jesus Christ… not darkness and death – through the gospel of Gaga, Rihanna and Kanye. Over the course of the next few weeks, he was overwhelmed with emails, phone calls and text messages from adults and teenagers who had committed to listening only to music that would glorify God and edify their souls in Truth. That’s when it hit him… There needs to be a new album of worship songs, aimed at glorifying Jesus and proclaiming His gospel, but set to the heavy drum and synth sounds of today’s pop songs. These pop/worship anthems could be sung in the midst of Believers across the world so that every ear on earth might hear the sounds of Light and Life in the midst of the darkness and death that is promoted in media. So, he teamed up with Jordan Sapp – a longtime friend, music producer, and brother in Christ, who happens to work with the very megapop artists he was hoping to creatively channel. And after nearly two years of sending emails and Dropbox files between Ohio and California, we are very proud of the sonic fusion (so to speak) that has been created. Imagine the sounds of Hillsong United meeting Lady Gaga… Chris Tomlin meeting LMFAO… David Crowder*Band meeting Taio Cruz. The music is tailored for a dance club… the lyrics are tailored for a sanctuary. When all of Christ’s saints join with one voice to praise His glorious Name… this is the sound of Light, and Scripture is clear – that Light needs to shine. We are to be the reflection of His glory – living every moment of every day in anticipation of that heavenly Day when He returns. Left alone to sing by myself, I am just Chris… one, single light. But when we (and Believers all over the world) join together in triumphant praise to our Faithful King… We are Lights of Day. If you are a worshiper of God Most High, you’ve just joined the band. Let the noise we make be the sound of Light in a world of darkness. For His glory and our joy.
