Surfer. Musician. Lover. Composer. Writer. Person. 
My name is Jake Taylor Smith. I am 19 years young from Southern California. I love jazz and soul, and just finished my first record, Because... The past year and a half has been devoted to this project, and, through the process of writing the songs, doing the arrangements, countless vocal cuts, and studio mixings, I found myself as an artist.
I grew up listening to all kinds of music, but Big Band Jazz and classic R&B/Soul stuck with me. I started really indulging my musical aspirations when I was about 14, and carried that through to Because… As an avid surfer, I basically live in the water, the ocean is where I feel the most at home and comfortable. My music seems to be a fusion of beach and Jazz that has settled in and fashioned my musical identity.
 
With a child-like sense of urgency as my guiding force, an old-soul as my base, and the ocean as my haven, I hope to shape my career and grow into a stronger artist than I am today, while continuing to learn. This record is the spark of my career and will hopefully provide me with the resources to finally release all the new songs I have trapped in my head.
 
I am currently playing locally and looking forward to the next step in my music career. What to look forward too? Who knows, I am just looking forward to each day. Let’s see what happens.
