English Dogs began as a punk/crossover band, but started leaning to a more metal-oriented sound when guitarist Gizz Butt joined in 1984. In time, they settled on the power metal side, releasing milestones of the genre such as "Where Legend Began".
English Dogs were first active between 1981 and 1987, then again between 1993 and 1996. After ceasing activities under the "English Dogs" name, the entire 1996 lineup started a punk rock band named Janus Stark that very same year, releasing an album in 1998, and splitting up in 2002, when Gizz Butt formed The More I See.
In 2007, the band's first lineup (minus Pinch) reformed, releasing the "Tales From the Asylum" EP in 2008. However, by 2009 this lineup ceased activities as well. Nevertheless, singer Wakey Wakefield recruited new members and continued to perform as English Dogs. This lineup released the 2011 EP "Get Off My F**king Moon".
Both Stuart West and Andrew "Pinch" Pinching now play in legendary punk band, The Damned.
