Iris earned her musical laurels at a very early age by winning the competition "Jugend musiziert". She discovered her vocal talent later in performances with various different choirs and A-Cappella groups. Alongside her musical career she took a degree in Law which she completed in 2000 when she took her second state qualifying examination. Since then she has worked as a lawyer for a Hamburg law practice specialising in competition and copyright law. Iris took a second degree at the Hamburg University of Music and Drama (Hamburger Hochschule für Musik und Theater HfMT) to become a graduate culture manager. As of 2008 she is herself a lecturer at the Institut für Kultur- und Medienmanagement at the HfMT. For Iris, however, creating beautiful music will always be what she loves most in the world. In 2002 she founded in conjunction with Angelika the quartet "Salut Salon".
In conjunction with co-founder Angelika Bachmann she has led for 20 years the “Coolen Streicher” (The Cool Strings) an orchestra for children and young people, which in 2004 was awarded the title of most innovative music project in Germany. Iris has for ten years worked tirelessly for under-privileged young people through her commitment to the music school “Escuela Popular de Artes”, a project run by German charity Kindernothilfe in a disadvantaged neighboorhood in Achupallas, Chile.
In 2008 Iris co-founded “The Young ClassX” (with Angelika Bachmann and the Otto Group), an initiative with the aim of bringing music to children in Hamburg. Thanks to this project, over 6500 children and young people sing in a choir and play in a youth orchestra. As of 2013 Iris Siegfried runs in conjunction with Angelika Bachmann the renowned competition “Hamburger Instrumental-Wettbewerb”.
In conjunction with Angelika Bachman, Iris Siegfried began in 2013 to pass on her own performing experience as lecturer in seminars to students studying music at university.
Iris Siegfried recieved in 2011 the medal of honour Bundesverdienstkreuz as acknowledgement of her voluntary work with children in the world of music.
