Sonja Lena studied cello and chamber music in Hamburg, Amsterdam, Den Haag and Lübeck and has won many awards and grants, such Die Zeit (German broadsheet newspaper) grant from German foundation Musikleben, Dutch state Huygens grant, 1st prize in the Charles Hennen Concours International Chamber Music Competition and a special prize in the international competition “Schubert and the Music of Modern Times”.

Besides playing with Salut Salon, Sonja is involved in numerous chamber music and theatre music projects and is guest performer at international festivals. She is a great fan of new waves in music and is a member of „Decoder“, an ensemble that has recently received a lot of media coverage because of their unconventional performance style and programme concepts. Sonja is mainly preoccupied with the connection between music and theatre: She has performed in productions at Thalia Theater (Hamburg), Deutsche Schauspielhaus and the Biennale in Munich.

In 2014 Sonja initiated in conjunction with Anne von Twardowski the project “Rauschen”, which combines classical chamber music with live electronic sounds. On this project they are joined by the Berlin DJs “Gebrüder Teichmann”.

Sonja gives, also in conjunction with Anne von Twardowski, performance training workshops as guest lecturer at Berlin’s university Hochschule der populären Künste Berlin
