To ancient Greeks, "Eleutheria" was a term for the personification of liberty. Now, it is a 5-piece post-hardcore band found in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee. With a new album and a new sound, they are storming through the melodic hardcore scene. The band's heartbeat is found in the realities that break the world, and the hope that drives it forward. Formed in 2013, this group of artists found each other at Visible Music College. With origins ranging from Oregon to Maryland, Eleutheria is taking their new record as far as the stage allows.
The band is made up of vocalist Naø Glover, guitarists Nick Toebbe and Shekinah Langford, drummer Joel Hoyt, and bassist Daniel Lewandowski. From worship to indie-rock, the histories of all members have come together to create the unique correlation of sounds that make up Eleutheria. Drawing sonic comparisons to bands like The Color Morale and Underoath, their melodies crash into the harsh screaming vocals to construct a beautiful contrast in energies from song to song. In their new record, there is everything from an angsty chant like "Inconsistencies" to a building ballad like "Funny Bone." 
Taken at the Flood, their second album, was released on May 8, 2015. Derived from a Shakespeare quote, the album follows the battle of choosing life through the ebb and flow of reality. The band has played in local venues and churches since their first self-titled EP, released in 2014. Now, the sound that has evolved to become Eleutheria is, at last, on a record. The band will be taking their new album on the road in October, touring around the Midwest and midsouth, accompanied by Convictions, an “aggressive worship” band from Ohio.
With crashing cymbals and thick walls of sound, the music drives the on-stage experience for this band of believers. Eleutheria prepares to do justice to their record with honesty. In a genre dominated by males, female vocalist Naø and guitar player Shekinah confirm that girls can scream and play as brutally as anyone. While aiming for energy on stage, the relationships built off stage remain a high priority. They want to grow Eleutheria as a family of believers in hope.
Taken at the Flood was produced by Wind Drift Studio, and can be found on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, Amazon MP3 and all other digital distributors. It is a taste of the new direction of the defining sound of Eleutheria. With constant writing and producing going on within the band at all times, the music stream is fast flowing. The movement started in 2013 in a music school practice room, and now that it is in motion, there is no stopping it. Eleutheria has lit the spark, and now the fire has nothing to do but blaze through the dark.
