Born in Trumbull, Connecticut in 1961, Lampanelli studied journalism atSyracuse University and Harvard, and brieflyenjoyed a successfulcareer in the magazine industry, working as a copy editor at PopularMechanics and writing about music for Spy, Hit Parader, and RollingStone. In the early'9Os, Lampanelli decided to try her hand at standupcomedy and paid her dues working clubs in New York City. She slowlydeveloped a following for her routines, which were both raunchy andcaustic while revealing a self-depreciating charm that helped thepoison go down easily, but it wasn't until the new millennium that shebroke into mainstream stardom, partly on the basis on severaltelevised celebrityroasts.Lampanelli became a regular guest onHoward Stern's radio show, where her over-the-top wit fit like a glove,and she made a standout appearance on Comedy Central's Friar's Clubroast of Hugh Hefner in 2001; she was invited back for subsequentroasts ofChevyChase,Pamela Anderson,William Shatner, and JeffFoxworthy
Lampanelli's first cable standup special, The Queen of Mean, aired in2002, and her first album, Take lt Like a Man -- tied into another cablespecial with the same title --appeared in 2005.In 2006, Lampanellimade her movie debut alongside fellow comic Larry the Cable Guyinhis picture Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector, and issued hersecond album, DirtyGirl, in early2007, with the simultaneous releaseof a concert DVD featuring the same material.
