There are a few universal truths in life, and gravity is one of them – it always pulls in the same direction and always at the same rate. For many people, there are times that the forces of life seem to pull in many unexpected directions. But for the members of Throwing Gravity, everything seems to be going up. 

As the founder of Throwing Gravity, Nick James has always had the mindset that the best song always wins. Since his beginnings as a songwriter in Nashville’s overshadowed rock scene, Nick has dedicated himself to turning out hard-hitting songs fueled by big guitars and even bigger choruses. In the other four members of Throwing Gravity, James has found the band he’s been looking for. 

With a shared passion for great songs, big music and hard work, Nick James, Jesse Triplett, Chris Scott, Tom DuPree III and Greg McCool all feel that the stars have aligned in the formation of Throwing Gravity. “Everything in this band has seemed to happen so fast,” says James. “It’s as if it was all meant to be.” And it’s true. Formed barely a year ago, Throwing Gravity has already experienced what many bands can only hope to achieve – touring the US and Canada, industry recognition and putting blood, sweat and tears into their first full-length release. 

Through a painstaking writing and recording process, the five members of Gravity have managed to produce a powerful collection of songs, including the always-relatable “What She Wants”, the massive “Missing You” and the band’s newest masterpiece, “Wake Up”. And the rest of the album is certain not to disappoint. Says Nick, “I know it may sound cliché to say, but we’ve tried to assemble the best collection of songs we can come up with for this record. We’ve put our hearts into this, and we hope that everyone can get an experience from it.” 

Now signed to Lava Records/Universal Republic, Throwing Gravity is, true to their nature, moving up. With their debut release set for 2010, the band is excited for the future. “We are a rock band. Period,” says James, “Nothing less.” A perfect description of the band, the sentiment is exhibited in the band’s live performance. 

Although Throwing Gravity has managed to accomplish much in its short existence, the band realizes they still have much more to prove. Seemingly, gravity is a universal truth, but if the lifespan of this group has shown anything, perhaps it is that sometimes, even gravity itself seems to be thrown out the window.
